Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) held a Special General Meeting (SGM), on Friday 6th November, 2015 at 11am.

The meeting was well attended by 60 Anangu from the APY communities. The member communities and outstation were 80% represented at the Special General Meeting.

The Special General Meeting Agenda resolved the following 4 main topic areas:

1. Appointment of an Auditor for 2014-2015.The meeting passed a resolution to appoint Edwards Marshall Pty Ltd, Chartered Accountants as APY’s Auditors for 2014- 2015.
   
   
2. Acknowledgment of the outgoing Law and Culture Committee and nominate the new members to the new APY Law and Culture Committee.
   Members of APY formed a new committee which is called “The APY Law and Culture Committee”.
   Nominations from Anangu Tjuta were called for and a resolution was passed to form the New APY Law and Culture Committee. The committee is made up of 6 Male and 5 Female members. The members are a good representation from across the APY Communities.  The APY Law and Culture Committee plan on holding their first meeting in the coming weeks.
   Please Note: This committee is not to be confused with the recently established Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Law and Culture Pty Ltd run by Mr Murray George. This Company does not have any standing to carry out functions on behalf of APY Executive Board under the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Land Rights Act. The group have chosen to become fully independent of the APY Executive board and seek independent support for their activities.
   
   
3. Road development and discussion
   Anangu Tjuta (all present) passed a resolution:
   That the Special General Meeting, subject to the operation of section 7 of the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Land Rights Act and the Heritage Protection Act, support the improvement and development of the roads between the Stuart Highway, Iwantja, Mimili, Fregon, Pukatja, Kenmore and Mulga Park; and the road between Umuwa, Amata and Pipalyatjara; within the APY lands boundary.
   The Special General Meeting supported the road being a private road for Anangu Tjuta and agreed that no compensation will be paid to any member of APY for the road improvements.
   
   
4. Mining Tenement update
   An update was provided on the Mining Tenements and Anangu Tjuta passed a resolution that these funds are to be distributed, a meeting has been called in three weeks’ time to distribute these funds.
